WE ARE THE FOOL Out Now!

As Théoden says to Saruman, When you hang from a gibbet at your window for the sport of your own crows, we will have the third part of the Jericho trilogy.
It’s been a while. We Are The Hanged Man was published in 2011, then We Are Death followed not very closely behind in 2015, being the last hurrah of digital publisher Blasted Heath before it sank into a watery abyss.
Ever since then I felt I ought to round it out, and finish off the story. And once in a while I’d take a look at Hanged Man, and decide that I no longer liked it very much, and didn’t want to return to it. That book is quite downbeat, with moments of grim violence – unlike the absurdist, cartoon violence of a Barney Thomson or DS Hutton novel – and I’d reread it to get back into the story, then think, nah, I’m just going to leave it.
Time passed, and some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, DCI Jericho passed out of all knowledge. Until, when chance came, it ensnared me again.
I stumbled across it last year, had another read of Hanged Man, and for no reason that anyone can explain, not even science, I quite enjoyed it. And so, I decided to pull the trigger on book 3, and here we are.
We Are Death was already quite a departure from Hanged Man in style. None of the grim violence, it’s more of an international thriller, with sequences in Paris, the Atlas Mountains, the Alps and Oslo. It feels completely different.
We Are The Fool pushes the international thriller aspect quite a bit further, more or less turning Jericho into James Bond. The storyline has been fairly ludicrous from the off, so this book’s preposterousness is in keeping with what’s gone before. Hopefully it’s good fun. It wraps the story up and puts it to bed, and now we can all move on…
Here’s the blurb. To be honest, I wrote this before I wrote the book, or indeed had any real idea what the book would be about, so it doesn’t tell you much. But if you’re looking for a thriller about a madman threatening the end of the world, We Are The Fool is the book for you.
We are the hanged man.
We are death.
We are the end of all things…
Ten years have passed since DCI Robert Jericho discovered the existence of the mysterious collective known as The Pavilion. Ten years he has searched for answers. In that time the world has spiralled downwards, civilisation nearing collapse. War has returned to Europe; political instability has swept the globe; the world is on fire. Humanity has never been more at the whim of a few dangerous, power-crazed individuals.
Jericho has returned to the Shire, no nearer to the menace at the heart of the Pavilion than he was on that fateful night in Oslo ten years previously. He has given up the chase, thinking there’s little else for him to do in this world other than take his police pension, and watch the fall of humanity play out on television.
All will change, however, when an unexpected late night visitor comes calling, and soon Jericho is plunged once more into the world of international intrigue and conspiracy, treachery and murder.
We Are The Fool, the final part of the DCI Jericho trilogy, is a magnificently far-fetched, rip-roaring, edge of the seat thriller, that will have you returning to the start of the series to read the whole damn thing again.
