Ho Ho Ho

Added on 07 December 2015

There are many crushing disappointments in the life of any writer. In my case, the single most crushing has been the failure of feelgood Yuletide tale, Santa’s Christmas Eve Blues, to become the best known Christmas story of all time, more popular even than A Christmas Carol, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, It’s A Wonderful Life, and Jack Frost 2: Revenge Of The Mutant Killer Snowman*.

Every year, once December comes around, I look at the Kindle charts hoping that the book will finally be catching on. Current Kindle rankings as I write:

UK: 212,841

US: 2,125,267

Spain: 400,515

Italy: 436,437

So, it’s not going well. As someone might have written in a Yuletide poem at some point:

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and this was the news

Not a creature was reading Santa’s Christmas Eve Blues.

Still, one mustn’t despair. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers: for he today that reads with me shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile, This heartwarming Christmas story shall gentle his condition: And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accursed they had not, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that read with us Santa’s Christmas Eve Blues.

Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate and read it here.
